Wujal Wujal Temporary Medical Clinic
The Wujal Wujal Aboriginal Shire is a local government area in Far North Queensland, Australia. Wujal Wujal was among the worst hit communities, with residents evacuated and homes and critical community infrastructure extensively damaged by the heavy rain and flooding that followed a cyclone in December 2023. The devastating floodwaters rendered their health clinic in Wujal Wujal Community unusable, Moreton Hire were quickly engaged as the lead contractor to install a semi-permanent, fully-fitted structure for medical services for Torres and Cape Hospital.
Covering a 15m x 15m footprint, the temporary structure clinic we designed was to accommodate essential medical facilities, including four exam rooms, an emergency room, a waiting area, administrative spaces, office and storage facilities for clinic supplies, medicine storage, and staff amenities, including break rooms.
Utilising our existing infrastructure – previously used for the Queensland Government’s COVID-19 pandemic response – we could ensure a seamless and efficient deployment. We also had the correct experience and knowledge around the necessary high level HVAC needed in structures like this, as well as the BPA electrical that was required. A body protected area (BPA); is an entire room that includes strict controls to allow for cardiac applied equipment to be used. Moreton Hire were across these requirements during our structure build.
Within a short two-week timeframe from briefing to installation, the Moreton Hire team finalised the design, obtained necessary approvals, and swiftly began the installation process.
