Avalon Australian International Airshow is a major biennial event held at Avalon Airport in Victoria, attracting over 180,000 attendees across six days. As the largest event of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, the airshow brings together international aerospace exhibitors, government representatives, military personnel, scientific experts, and trade delegates. The event plays a crucial role in promoting the development of aviation while showcasing Australia’s industrial, manufacturing, and information technology capabilities to the global aerospace industry.
Moreton Hire was engaged as the primary exhibition and temporary structure contractor for the 2019 event. Proudly a relationship that has spanned over 20 years. The team delivered a comprehensive range of infrastructure, including:
- Exhibition marquees and pavilions for aerospace and defence exhibitors.
- Custom-built corporate hospitality suites for industry networking.
- Temporary structures for VIP lounges, media centres, and conference spaces.
- Integrated flooring, lighting, and signage solutions to enhance brand presence.
Key project details included:
- Four-month installation over the Christmas and New Year period, with only six weeks for dismantle following the show.
- 60 semi-trailer loads of equipment, including a 100-tonne crane on-site, operating under strict construction site regulations.
- Installation scope: 23,000 square meters of marquee structures, 16,000 carpet tiles laid across the event site.
- Aircraft-compatible marquees, designed with specific weight and finishing requirements to allow aircraft landings in front of the chalet line.
- Structures minimized noise and movement impact on exhibitors.
- Construction site compliance: The Avalon Airshow was classified as a construction site, requiring full compliance with Work Safe Victoria regulations.
- Moreton Hire ensured that the site, staff, and contractors adhered to all statutory and industry safety parameters.
- Airport security & compliance: ASIC passes were required from the Civil Aviation Authority for all personnel working on-site.
