The Center of the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games was ‘The Gold Coast Media Centre,’ a versatile space that hosted 42 events over two weeks. Featuring a 20m x 40m Maxiflex marquee built directly on the sand! The space included seven function spaces within. Moreton Hire provided a full turnkey offering for the from venue build, provision of equipment, site, production and event management.

The site fit out included HVAC, fencing, custom decking, DDA ramps, toilets, kitchens, electrical, furniture, plants, flooring, and signage.

It was a pleasure working with the team from Moreton Hire to deliver a truly spectacular facility in tough conditions on the beach. Whilst challenging through rain during the build and wind, wet and salty environment for maintenance the team delivered an incredible venue that made the desired impression on everyone who came through during the Games. I wanted to pass on my thanks to the team who managed a challenging mix of events, in tight timeframes, with multiple stakeholders to ensure every client felt valued and events delivered what they had wished for before the Games.
They team arrived each day with smiles on their faces to overcome whatever last minute changes were thrown at them. They were highly motivated and ably managed the build phase through those tough climates, working with City as a client and listening to our feedback, helping us through variations as the build progressed and always helping find solutions to any issues that arose. They worked tirelessly through the build to the very end to ensure the highest quality facility was constructed.
The team then transitioned to Event Management for the Games period seamlessly,. They were always onsite, or a phone call away, from resolving maintenance issues, to event challenges, to taking control during onsite issues such as the occasional power outage in sudden rain. They were a pleasure to work with over the past couple of months and are real assets to the Moreton Hire team.

The Media centre of the 2018 Commonwealth Games was led by Moreton Hire’s Project Managers, the team tackled challenging weather, high foot traffic, tight timelines, and access hurdles to showcase the best of the Gold Coast.

The fit-out featured seven event spaces, from Seminar and theatre zones, gala dinners, meeting and breakout rooms. Each room including Furniture, Signage, Decor, AV and Lighting, regularly turning over to meet individual event needs on the day and time.  The design adhered to daily timelines and guidelines, incorporating a large fabricated acoustic wall and a workroom for delegates. Working closely with the client, Moreton Hire’s Project Manager and team provided site and venue management, ensuring safety and compliance in the high-profile public space.
